Officials Endorse Purchase

University Could Use Eminent Domain

The Buildings and Grounds Committee of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees on Thursday recommended purchasing or condemning land north of campus where a private apartment complex has been planned.

Also on Thursday, the university’s Board of Trustees’ Buildings and Grounds Committee recommended purchasing portions of the East Square Plaza building on the east side of the Fayetteville square for $2.7 million. The basement and main floor of the building would house the David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History and the university’s Community Design Center, according to Don Pederson, vice chancellor for finance and administration.
