Coody enters Fayetteville mayor's race

— Dan Coody, who served two terms as Fayetteville's mayor before being ousted by Lioneld Jordan in 2008, confirmed Tuesday he will enter this year's race.

Voters will elect a person for the four-year position in the Nov. 6 general election. Coody is the only person to announce plans to run against Jordan. Jordan, who was previously an alderman serving Ward 4, announced in late March that he planned to seek re-election.

Coody in recent weeks has said he was debating whether to launch a mayoral campaign. He has been publicly critical of the Jordan administration's handling of the city's paid parking system on and around Dickson Street, the administration's plans for a new downtown parking deck and other city issues.

He also participated with supporters in conducting a recent telephone poll that gauged Fayetteville residents' perspectives on Jordan, the city's paid parking in the Dickson Street entertainment area and other subjects.

The filing period for municipal candidates begins July 27.
