Arkansas home sales up in first quarter

— Home sales in Arkansas were up in the first three months of the year, a realtors group said Thursday.

The Arkansas Realtors Association said sales increased 6 percent compared to the same period in 2011 while average prices rose by 3 percent. March sales were up 1 percent.

Amy Glover Bryant, a spokesman for the group, said good weather, lots of inventory and low mortgage rates all contributed to the increases.

“The key word is ‘up,’” she said in a news release. “We are up for the month and up for the year in all categories. This is good news for the Arkansas housing market, for homeowners and for prospective buyers and sellers."

The figures reflect a 43-county area surveyed by the group.
