North Little Rock council rejects hill cut proposal

The North Little Rock City Council will not allow a church along Interstate 40 to cut into the hillside below homes in a neighborhood to add a parking lot.

The council decided at the meeting tonight.

The North Little Rock City Council decided in a meeting March 26 not to allow a church along Interstate 40 to cut into the hillside below homes in a neighborhood to add a parking lot.

The planning commission approved the request from First Pentecostal Church at 1401 Calvary Road to make the cut into the hill in 2010, but the city council still had to approve the proposal for the plans to proceed.

The planning commission approved the request from First Pentecostal Church at 1401 Calvary Road to make the cut into the hill in 2010, but the city council still had to approve the proposal for the plans to proceed.

Several homeowners in the Park Hill neighborhood opposed the cut, and the long-debated parking lot expansion has been on the council's agenda since November.

The church initially sought 445 parking spaces, but the council approved an amendment to reduce the parking spaces to 343 earlier this month.
