The Literacy Council of Benton County will be the beneficiary of two late March fundraisers.

On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina in Rogers will host a fundraiser for the group Monday. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of food and beverage purchases made from 4-10 p.m. that evening to the nonprofit.

A rummage sale for the literacy council is planned from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 31 at the group’s Bentonville office, 205 N.W. A St. Household items, furniture, jewelry, sports equipment, purses, cookware, tools and decorative items will be on sale as part of the event.

A bake sale and a book sale are also planned. Donations are being accepted for the sale.

Sesame Street comes to Fort Smith

Sesame Street Live will present “Elmo Makes Music,” an interactive performance for kids, at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Smith Convention Center.

The play tells the story of Jenny, an enthusiastic new music teacher who comes to Sesame Street and teaches Elmo and his friends that even rubber duckies, trash can lids and cookie jars can be used to make music.

Parents will recognize popular songs in the performance such as “The Hustle,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “Rockin’ Robin.” Regular ticket prices are $15-$20.

There will also be a limited number of $30 Gold Circle and $50 Sunny Seats tickets for sale. Sesame Workshop, which produces Sesame Street Live, is a nonprofit educational organization.
