PINE BLUFF — A convicted rapist from Sebastian County serving a 13-year prison sentence slashed his wrists and throat after seeing he was about to get caught during an escape attempt.
Correction Department spokeswoman Shea Wilson says 40-year-old Roy Hoggard got on the roof of a boiler room at about 11 a.m. Saturday and was trying to cut through a fence that surrounds the roof.
Wilson says that set off an alarm, after which Hoggard hid under a vent cover. Guards found him with the throat and wrist wounds. Hoggard was being treated at a hospital but his condition wasn’t immediately available.
Hoggard was locked up at the Randall Williams unit in Pine Bluff where he was serving time for two rape convictions.
