Police: Pharmacist sold drugs

Greenwood merchant arrested on ‘pot,’ gun counts

A Greenwood pharmacist faces marijuana and firearms charges after, police said, he sold an ounce of marijuana to an undercover police officer Wednesday.

The arrest of Dustin Brownfield, 35, owner and operator of Brownfield Pharmacy, capped a month-long investigation, said Lt. Darrel Miner of the 12th Judicial District Drug Task Force. Miner also is a Barling police detective.

Brownfield posted a $25,000 bond Thursday morning and was released from Sebastian County jail, where he had been booked on charges of delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

After the undercover officer purchased the marijuana, Brownfield went to his Greenwood home and left again shortly thereafter, Miner said. A Sebastian County sheriff’s deputy and a Greenwood police patrol stopped Brownfield as he drove away and arrested him.

Brownfield did not resist arrest and did not give a statement to investigators, Miner said.

Task force members executed a search warrant of Brownfield’s home Thursday morning and found 6 grams of marijuana, four handguns and two rifles inside, Miner said.

There was no evidence that Brownfield was dealing marijuana or conducting any illegal activity from the pharmacy, Miner said.

The task force includes members of the Greenwood, Lavaca and Barling police departments and the Sebastian County sheriff’s office.
