Church treasurer pleads guilty to theft

A former church treasurer has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from Twelve Corners Baptist Church.

Catherine Spivey, 43, of Pea Ridge pleaded guilty Thursday to theft of property, a Class B felony, which is punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.

Spivey’s plea is without the benefit of a plea agreement, so her punishment will be up to Circuit Judge Jon Comstock.

Spivey agreed to pay the $31,446 in victim restitution on Thursday as a condition of the plea agreement.

She was hired in 2006 as treasurer for the Pea Ridge church.

The sentencing is set for Aug. 15.
