LITTLE ROCK — 100 YEARS AGO June 28, 1912

In the “Agents’ Bulletin” for June, issued by the Missouri Pacific-Iron Mountain system, is a panoramic view of Little Rock taken from the top of the dome of the new state capitol. Beneath the picture is a concise description of Little Rock. Each agent on the Missouri Pacific-Iron Mountain system receives a copy of this bulletin, thus acquainting many people in as many sections of the United States with Little Rock.

50 YEARS AGO June 28, 1962 WASHINGTON - The U.S. Civil Service Commission today formally ordered the Labor Department to withhold $30,600 in federal funds from the Arkansas Employment Security Division. Copies of the order have been forwarded to Gov. Faubus and Atty. Gen. Frank Holt.The funds represent twice the annual salaries of two ESD employes found guilty of violating the Hatch Act. Gov. Faubus has refused to fire the two employees despite the fact of losing the federal aid.

25 YEARS AGO June 28, 1987

Arkansas should find out fairly quickly if it is going to have to pay for an even larger share of the Grand Gulf nuclear plant, an attorney for one of the state’s adversaries in the nuclear plant case says. In a nightmarish development for Arkansas officials involved in the Grand Gulf case, it was learned Friday that the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia had ordered the FERC to take a new look at the way it divided the cost of the $3.7 billion facility near Port Gibson, Miss., among Arkansas Power & Light Co. and the other subsidiaries of New Orleans-based Middle South Utilities.

Under pressure from leading lawmakers calling for reconciliation, Gov. Mike Huckabee on Thursday retreated from his defense of e-mails labeling lawmakers as untrustworthy. The day after the Legislative Council held a special meeting to discuss problems with Huckabee’s troubled computer system, Huckabee acknowledged that some e-mails from his office had a “tone that was intemperate and frankly inappropriate.”
