‘Camp in a Van’ set for July 16-19

BELLA VISTA - The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista will be offering “Camp in a Van,” July 16-19. The church camp is led by counselors from Ferncliff Camp, a Presbyterian camp, near Little Rock. From 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day children will “camp” in the fellowship hall and participate in activities. The program is for children entering grades 2-7 this fall and is open to church members and the community.

Universal Monk is retreat topic

EUREKA SPRINGS - John Michael Talbot, author, musician and leader of the Catholic lay community, the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage, will lead a retreat based on his book, The Universal Monk: The Way of the New Monastics, July 27-29.

The retreat, held at Little Portion Retreat and Training Center, begins with the liturgy of the hours on July 27, followed by a light dinner, orientation and the first session and ends in a period of silence until after breakfast the following morning. The second day begins with morning prayer, followed by breakfast and a teaching session with Talbot. The afternoon session begins after lunch and is followed by free time. After dinner, the group will travel to the monastery for a tour and to attend evening Mass with the brothers and sisters of the monastery. Thefinal day includes breakfast, morning prayer and another session with Talbot, followed by lunch.

Individuals can also schedule private retreats at the center throughout the year when space is available. Private rooms with private or shared bathrooms are available, as well as use of a small kitchen stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. Rooms are furnished with linens and towels. Cost is $40 per room for single occupancy or $60 for double.
