ROGERS — Bob Thornton will celebrate his 90th birthday at a reception at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Apple Blossom Community Room in Rogers, 2501 N. 22nd St.
Thornton married Frieda Lynch in 1943. The couple have a late son, Stephen; two grandchildren, StephenJr. and Judith Ann Jr.; and two greatgrandchildren.
After serving in the Army Air Corps,Thornton entered retail and was later recruited by Sam Walton in 1968 to designWalmart’s distribution system.
After hiring Lee Scott as his successor in 1981, Thornton retired and co-founded the Pinnacle Country Club and developed Pinnacle Hills with Bill Schwyhart and J.B. Hunt.
Thornton also co-founded the Benton County Flying Tigers.
