— Brandon Rashaid Conley, 31, of 209 E. Seventh St. in Fayetteville was arrested Tuesday in connection with committing a terroristic act, engaging in violent criminal group activity and possession of a firearm by certain person. All three counts are felonies.

Police were called to 1233 Boxley Ave. on the afternoon of June 14 for a report of shots fired shortly after witnesses saw several men arguing in the street.

Brandon Conley’s brother, 23-year-old Cruz Conley, was shot several times in the torso and left arm. He was treated at Washington Regional Medical Center and released a few days later.

Police arrested Stephan W. Perkins, 26, Walter Green, 30, Adrian Arnez Smith, 35, and Andrew Wilson-Moore, 25, shortly after the shooting.

Sgt. Craig Stout said Brandon Conley was arrested after an investigation pointed to his involvement in the shooting.

“We’re not anticipating any more arrests at this point,” Stout said.

Police spoke with Conley on the day of the shooting. He told police during the shooting he was sleeping in a tent outside hoping the heat would kill bed bugs. Several witnesses contradicted his story, according to a preliminary report.

Conley asked for an attorney before any additional statements.

Conley was on probation at the time of the shooting. On May 3 he pleaded guilty to felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced to three years on probation.

In 2002, he also pleaded guilty to unlawful dog fighting and was sentenced to four years on probation, which he successfully completed.

The Boxley Avenue shooting was the fourth reported in Fayetteville in less than a month. Police have said the shootings are not drug- or gang-related.

Several others were arrested in connection with the incident on charges related to hiding information from police.
