"Fake Beard Bandit" sentenced

— Jason Day, 39, of Tulsa, who investigators dubbed the “Fake Beard Bandit,” was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to more than 11 years in prison after pleading guilty in February to eight bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery in Arkansas and three other states.

U.S. District Judge P.K. Holmes III also fined Day $5,000, ordered him to pay $70,508 restitution and to pay a $900 special assessment. Day wore a fake beard during robberies.

Day pleaded guilty to robbing four banks in Oklahoma, two banks in Kansas, one bank in Missouri and one in Fort Smith. He also attempted to rob the River Town Federal Credit Union in Fort Smith. The robberies occurred from May 24, 2011, to Aug. 23. He was arrested on Aug. 26, 2011, after a relative recognized him on a billboard in Fayetteville.
