Council To Review Meter Contract

— The Bentonville City Council will consider awarding a $6.6 million bid to Mueller Systems for an automated metering system at its meeting at 6 p.m. today.

The city has been testing pilot programs for its water and electric customers from several companies over the past few months and heard from Mueller Systems at a council meeting in May. The new meters would provide real-time information for city staff and customers, according to Travis Matlock, city engineering director.

The Council will consider paying $24,620 to software vendor SunGard Public Sector to evaluate integrating the city’s billing software with the metering system. Gary Wilson, billing and collections manager, said he does not anticipate the entire amount quoted will be used. He said city staff will present a final quote for upgrading the software after the evaluation.

Aldermen will hear a quarterly economic development report from Ed Clifford, outgoing Chamber of Commerce director, and the annual Bentonville Public Library report from director Hadi Dudley. They will also recognize Yard of the Month winners Bob and Marilyn Bogle, and Superior Auto Group.
