Bentonville millage fails

With six of six precincts reporting there were 5,589 votes (58 percent) against and 4,029 votes (41.8 percent) are in favor of the Bentonville School District millage. All results are unofficial until certified by the Benton County Election Commission.

The 6.7-mill increase was proposed by the district to fund the construction of a second high school to be located in Centerton and remodel Bentonville High School on J Street along with upgrading technology and heating and cooling districtwide.

The district would have received $128 million. Of that amount, $94 million would have went to build a second high school. The increase would have pushed the school district’s millage rate to 50.4 mills.
