Arkansas Red Cross places teams on alert for possible deployment

The American Red Cross in Arkansas has placed disaster teams on alert for possible deployment to Florida in response to Tropical Storm Debby.

The Red Cross said Monday that the American Red Cross National Headquarters asked the Arkansas chapter to have teams ready in case of flooding from the storm in portions of Florida and Alabama. Two Red Cross volunteers from Arkansas are currently in Minnesota because of flooding there.

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to dump up to 25 inches of rain as it lingers along the coastline and evacuation orders have been issued to residents living in low-lying areas. Also — the state’s governor has declared a statewide emergency and a tropical storm warning is in effect for most of Florida’s Gulf coast.
