Davis,Thatcher go low, have eye on first victory

— Englishman Brian Davis shot a 6-under-par 64, and Roland Thatcher had a 65 on Saturday to share the third-round lead in the Travelers Championship at 12 under.

Both are looking for their first victory on the PGA Tour.

Davis made an early move, shooting a 29 on the front nine with six birdies. Thatcher overtook him with three consecutive birdies on the back nine and had a one-stroke lead before missing a 7-foot par putt on the 17th hole.

Seventeen other players were within five strokes of the lead entering the final round.

John Rollins, James Driscoll and Stuart Appleby were two strokes back. Defending champion Fredrik Jacobson, who led after two rounds, shot even par to remain at 9 under.

Bryce Molder (Conway) shot his second consecutive 67 and is at 5 under, seven shots behind the leaders. Ken Duke (Arkadelphia, Henderson State) shot a 3 over par Saturday and is at 1-under 209.

EUROPEAN TOUR Willett leads BMW

PULHEIM, Germany - England’s Danny Willett remained in pursuit of his firstEuropean Tour victory after shooting 69 Saturday to lead by a shot at 12 under after three rounds of the BMW International Open.

The 24-year-old Willett moved ahead of England’s Chris Wood (70) and Chileanborn Swede Joel Sjoholm (72) on the Gut Larcenhof course.

John Daly (Dardanelle, Arkansas Razorbacks) fell back into a tie for 63rd place after a 77 on Saturday. Daly is at 2-over 218.

CHAMPIONS TOUR Tway leads at Montreal

SAINTE-JULIE, Quebec - Bob Tway shot a 7-underpar 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Mark Calcavecchia after the second round of the Champions Tour’s Montreal Championship.

The 53-year-old Tway had a 9-under 135 on Vallee du Richelieu Golf Club’s Vercheres Course. Winless on the 50-and-over tour, he won the 2003 Canadian Open for the last of his eight PGA Tour titles.

Calcavecchia shot a 67.

WOMEN’S AMATEUR Kim wins amateur title

NESHANIC STATION, N.J. - Kyung Kim won theU.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, beating Ashlan Ramsey 4 and 2 in the 36-hole final at Neshanic Valley.

The 18-year-old Kim, from Chandler, Ariz., took a 2-up lead with a birdie on the 32nd hole, won the 33rd with another birdie and took the 34th with a par to close out the match.

The 16-year-old Ramsey is from Milledgeville, Ga.

NATIONWIDE TOUR Herman holds lead

WICHITA, Kan. - Jim Herman held on to his twostroke lead in the Wichita Open, firing a 3-under-par 68 Saturday. Herman is 15 under for the tournament.

Casey Wittenberg moved into second with a 4-under 67 Saturday and is 13 under.

Tag Ridings (Arkansas Razorbacks) jumped from 25th to a tie for 12th with a 2-under 69 and stands at 8-under 205.

Ron Whittaker (Little Rock) and Scott Gardiner (Farmington) are tied for 20th after the third round at 7-under 206. Whittaker shot an even-par 71 on Saturday while Gardiner fired a 2-over 73.

David Lingmerth (Fayetteville) shot a 1-under 70 and is at 5-under 208.
