— 100 YEARS AGO June 21, 1912 FORT SMITH - Sixteen years for committing a forgery that netted him less than $30 was the sentencing imposed upon F.L. Wright of Spiro, Okla., by Judge Hon in the Circuit Court here today. He was indicted four times, each indictment containing two counts. Wright pleaded guilty to all cases against him and received two years on each count. Wright passed four bogus checks.

50 YEARS AGO June 21, 1962

Gov. Faubus declared today that any break between himself and one of his opponents, Congressman Dale Alford, came over congressional redistricting and not over the governor’s philosophy of government. In a speech last night at Star City and a statement delivered at Little Rock, Alford claimed that he quit his associationwith Faubus because the governor “became the tool of the bond dealers, wholesale whiskey dealers, gamblers, and the large utility companies and the corporation lawyers of Little Rock.” The governor said the cause of the split was the reduction of Arkansas’ six congressional districts to four because of the loss of population, whichleft Alford competing with some veteran congressmen. 25 YEARS AGO June 21, 1987

People driving through North Little Rock’s downtown may have to change their driving habits in the near future if the City Council decides Monday to make Main Street a twoway street between Fifth and Sixth streets. The city has been planning for more than a year to eliminate the bottleneck traffic at the Sixth and Main intersection. City crews have opened the East Seventh Street railroad crossing and widened the turning radius at East Fifth and Poplar streets behind the post office on Main Street.

The Huckabee administration acknowledged Thursday that federal officials are questioning whether the state overbilled for its troubled new computerized accounting system. The revelation came to light after an attorney representing the state’s former information technology czar, Randall Bradford, suggested that there might have been “creative accounting” associated with state and federal funds involved in the system.
