Lottery backs off police, debit-card ideas

Also, oversight panel looks at fiscal ’13 budget, revised vendor contract

The Arkansas Lottery Commission won’t ask the 2013 Legislature to grant it police powers or allow the use of debit cards to buy lottery tickets, citing the lack of support among lawmakers and Gov. Mike Beebe, the commission’s chairman said Tuesday. The Legislature’s lottery oversight committee Tuesday reviewed the lottery’s proposed fiscal 2013 budget, which projects $98 million for college scholarships, and a revised contract between the lottery and Georgia-based scratch-off ticket vendor Scientific Games International.
