Michael Proffitt Jr. pleaded not guilty Monday to murdering an 11-month-old boy at a Rogers motel last month.

Proffitt, 37, is charged with killing the infant on May 30 while watching the child for his stepson and stepson's fiance. He was ordered held without bond in the Benton County Jail on June 6. Two attorneys from Fayetteville have been appointed to represent him on the capital murder charges, said Benton County Prosecutor Van Stone.

Circuit Court Judge Robin Green set Proffitt's next court appearance for an omnibus hearing on Aug. 6.
