Excessive Elections A Waste Of Time, Effort, Money

Why? Why?

Why? Can anyone tell me why we have so many elections?

May 22 was the primary and I understand we needed a second election for runoffs, which was held June 12. But why are there special elections on June 26, Aug. 14 and Sept. 18? With the general election being held Nov. 6, it seems like the special elections could easily be avoided if they were included in the primary or general elections. Is there a reasonthe special elections can not piggyback on an existing election? Seems like a waste of time, effort and money to me.

RogersMANY THANKS

FOR D.C. TRIPAfirst-class thank you to the Walton and Tyson families for the first-class trip to Washington, D.C.

The Freedom Flight for World War II vets provided lots of help, no waiting, meals and spacious seatingon a large, fast airliner.

We were treated to band and choral receptions, comfortable buses and a professional tour guide, who showed us the war memorials, honoring vets from Pearl Harbor to the Marine Monument of Suribachi and its fl ag.

(While I was on Iwo, the Fifth Marine Cemetery and then Suribachi, was my fi rst morning sight, as I ducked out of my tent.) Our tour also included the Arlington Military Cemetery, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the White House, congressionaloft ces, two huge agricultural oft ce buildings, the Pentagon, Martin Luther King statue, museums, etc.

Then we returned home to the XNA airport, where we were greeted by a band, some military men in full dress, and several hundred civilian folks who were saying “thank you.”

I hope someday the Vietnam vets may have a thank you trip to Washington, D.C.

Thanks again to the Tyson and Walton families.
