Building the 36-mile Razorback Greenway, a trail system linking Bella Vista to Fayetteville, should be complete by the end of 2013.

AT A GLANCE

Razorback Greenway

The Razorback Greenway will pass near three hospitals, 23 schools, the University of Arkansas and NorthWest Arkansas Community College, and will connect to landmarks such as Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

An estimated 40,000 people live within a half-mile of the greenway.

Construction costs are estimated at $20 million in the next 18 months. A $60 million economic boost is anticipated because of construction, official said.

A map would have been nice.

Nice waste of taxpayer dollars....20 million to benefit the few hundred folks that may use the inter-city trial system. Show me some HONEST figures.....60 million in revenue, you expect us to believe that?

I thought northwest Arkansas was already on the map with Tyson's, George's, Walmart, U of A, J B Hunt, Bike, Blues and BBQ, Arvest ballpark, and many other things. Christy needs to get out more. It is scary to think she is the planning director for a city the size of Springdale.

For generations this will be seen as one of the smartest things our locals have done.

But not by the ankle-biters.

I was riding my bike on the Fayetteville trail system last night and there were a lot of people using it. It was so nice to see some many people, young and old, families, the fit and the aspiring to be fit, all outside getting some fresh air and exercise. I love that so many people smile and wave as they pass. The trails really bring out the best in our community.

I can't wait until we see more trail-side businesses. I'd love to see some cafe's serving healthy fare, juice bars, and ice cream shops. Clothing shops specializing in active wear, yoga studios, and roller blade rental places would also be a good fit.

I predict the trail system will be a golden ribbon of commerce in the not too distant future. I'm glad that we are investing in this valuable civic amenity and if elected, I promise to be a strong advocate for the continued expansion of our beautiful trail system.

Contrary to what other posters have written this trail system is good for everyone. It makes all the towns it runs through a better place to live.

I regularly use the Blossomway trail in Rogers that starts near the new Rogers high school on S. Dixieland street.

There is a problem with this trail, the Links at Blossomway golf course built their course straddling the small creek and the trail runs through the course. Recently they have parked a tractor right across the trail with a sign claiming TRAIL ENDS HERE to stop people from using it. The trail actually ends 1 mile further to the west. This tractor is on the trail just after it crosses under 540 and enters the golf course. This will cut the entire trail right in HALF if they are allowed to do stop the trail there.

Please call the Rogers parks department and ask that they get and keep this trail open.
