Mayor Richard Schoeninger said Monday the City Council should call a special election on the proposed annexation within 60 days. The mayor said the City Council last week created a committee to study the annexation of the property owned by the Elna M. Smith Foundation, the operator of the play. Also on the site of the Smith Foundation is the Christ of the Ozarks statue.

Police on Tuesday said they will increase patrols in the area during delivery times. A postal vehicle was struck by a bullet from a large-caliber weapon at Abigail and 19th streets on Thursday afternoon. The driver was not hurt, but postal officials called the area a “hostile environment” and suspended mail delivery.
