FAYETTEVILLE Former Arkansas baseball standout Zack Cox was traded to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday after spending the last two years in the St. Louis Cardinals' minor league system, according to multiple reports.
Cox' trade came just hours before the trade deadline for Major League Baseball. The Cardinals obtained the rights to relief pitcher Edward Mujica as part of the deal.
After an all-American sophomore campaign at Arkansas, Cox was selected with the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He signed with the Cardinals for a reported $3.2 million bonus.
In 84 games with the triple-A Memphis Redbirds this season, Cox batted .254 with 9 home runs and 30 RBIs.
