Suspect held, victim ID'd in Fort Smith-area slaying

— Sheriff’s deputies in Sequoyah County, Okla., have identified the victim in a weekend shooting death and have arrested a suspect.

Authorities said Stanley Leon Ross was shot dead in his driveway Saturday night near Vian, Okla.

The Southwest Times Record reported that James Arthur Moffett, 33, was arrested at the scene. He was initially picked up on suspicion of public intoxication and subsequently held on a charge of negligent homicide.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart wouldn’t say what led to the shooting other than that alcohol was involved. The sheriff said interviews with witnesses led to Moffett being arrested in Ross’ death.
