Pitcher Mitch Mustain (Springdale) was promoted to Class A Kannapolis by the Chicago White Sox on July 21. Mustain won in his first appearance with the Intimidators on Monday at Savannah, allowing 1 run (earned) on no hits with 1 walk and striking out 1 in 2 innings.
Pitcher DJ Baxendale (Arkansas Razorbacks) was promoted to Class A Beloit by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. In 7 2/3 innings pitched with the rookie league Elizabethton Twins, Baxendale allowed just 1 hit, 1 walk and had 16 strikeouts.
Pitcher Zach Cates (Conway) was demoted from advanced Class A Daytona to Class A Peoria by the Chicago Cubs on June 22. Cates struggled in Daytona, going 0-6 with a 10.50 ERA in 7 games. Those struggles have continued in Peoria, where Cates has gone 0-3 with a 4.71 ERA.
WHO’S HOT ANDY WILKINS (Arkansas Razorbacks) continues to do well offensively, with his batting average rising to .233. In 25 at-bats during 6 games, Wilkins scored 2 runs on 8 hits, including 2 doubles and a home run, with 9 RBI.
JACOB LEE (Arkansas State/Jonesboro) picked up a victory and a loss, and saw his ERA drop 0.17. Lee is 4-1 this season with a 2.59 ERA. In a victory at Jamestown on July 20 and a loss against Staten Island on Wednesday, Lee allowed a combined 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits with 1 walk and struck out 7 in 8 innings.
WHO’S NOT JAMES MCCANN (Arkansas Razorbacks) saw his batting average drop to .232. In 21 at-bats during 6 games, McCann scored 2 runs on 2 hits, including a home run, with 1 RBI.
ANDREW FERGUSON (Arkansas State) picked up a loss and saw his ERA rise 0.85. Ferguson is 3-2 this season with a 2.82 ERA. The losses came Monday against Frederick, in which Ferguson allowed 6 runs (all earned) on 10 hits with 0 walks and struck out 4 strikeouts in 51/3 innings.
