American Idol winner Kris Allen of Conway sings Saturday to a crowd in front of the Walmart Visitor Center in Bentonville. The crowd gathered to hear speakers and music as part of Walmart’s 50th anniversary celebration.
BENTONVILLE — For the first time in its 50-year history, Walmart broadcast its Saturday morning meeting to the public as part of a celebration on the Bentonville square to show its appreciation to the community.

Events at Walmart’s community appreciation celebration Saturday on Bentonville’s square included a Moon Pie eating contest, a Hula Hoop troupe, a big-screen broadcast of the company’s Saturday morning meeting and celebrity guests. Speakers and performers included Walmart CEO Mike Duke, former senior vice chairman Don Soderquist, singer Kris Allen and ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit.
