— Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

If you’ve stayed away from Mr. Clean products because that grinning bald guy on the package gives you the creeps, you might want to suck it up and give them a try anyway.

The original Magic Eraser, a sponge/cleaner hybrid, has been around for years, but the specialty kitchen and bath scrubbers ($3.49 and $3.69, respectively, for two) are relatively new and, like the other erasers, easy to use.

Simply wet the sponge, squeeze and clean.

Both versions of sponge are contoured for “easy gripping” and have a textured surface but otherwise, their styles are different. The bathroom scrubber is larger and has a shape designed for easy corner cleaning.

They do have different ingredients as well. The kitchen scrubber has Dawn dish washing liquid to attack grease and the bath scrubber has a soap scum cleaner. So, unless your bathroom has an inordinate amount of grease and you tend to soap up in the kitchen, you’re better off using the erasers in their designated rooms.

Both work well, taking only seconds to remove some stains that had been in place for years. Just be sure to spot-test and read the directions first, though, because they can damage some surfaces.

The erasers are reusable, though they do start to break down and fall apart after a few uses.
