2 Hogs, 1 Red Wolf on Walter Camp list

Arkansas running back Knile Davis and quarterback Tyler Wilson and Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin were named to the 50-man watch list for the Walter Camp player of the year award Friday.

The Walter Camp award is the fourth-oldest individual college football award, according to the Walter Camp Football Foundation, based in New Haven, Conn.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in mid-November, and the winner will be announced on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Dec. 6.

Davis and Wilson, who have both been named preseason All-SEC first team by coaches and member of the media last week, are also on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given to college football’s best player.

Aplin was named the Sun Belt Conference’s preseason offensive player of the year earlier this week.

A native of Tampa, Fla., Aplin passed for 3,588 yards and 19 touchdowns to earn Sun Belt player of the year honors last season. He is also on the watch lists for the Davey O’Brien, Manning and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm awards.

Wilson, Arkansas’ first All-SEC first-team quarterback last year, passed for 3,638 yards and 24 touchdowns. The Greenwood native is also on the O’Brien, Manning and Unitas watch lists.

Davis, of Missouri City, Texas, rushed for 1,322 yards in 2010 and was injured last season. He is on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which is given to college football’s top running back.
