McDaniel: Reject challenge to casino proposal

— Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says election officials should reject one of two challenges to a proposed constitutional amendment that would give a private business the exclusive right to operate casinos in the state.

McDaniel on Friday recommended that the secretary of state’s office deny the challenge to the proposal from professional poker player Nancy Todd. Todd’s proposal would give her exclusive rights to operate casinos in four counties.

Election officials are reviewing Todd’s petitions to verify that she turned the 78,133 signatures from registered voters to qualify for the November ballot.

The challenge had questioned the legality of the way tax money would be distributed under Todd’s proposal.

A separate challenge from a group opposed to Todd’s proposal is being reviewed by McDaniel’s office.
