Coaches ready to talk football

Optimism flows, hot seats stoke

Arkansas Coach John L. Smith, who enters the 2012 season with a 10-month contract, was ranked No. 2 on the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s informal poll of SEC coaches most likely to be fired.

The SEC likes its front-runner status on the football field and off.

Kansas City’s Michael McGee hits out of a bunker Monday on the 16th hole at Chenal Country Club’s Bear Den course. McGee shot a 1-over-par 73 to make a four man playoff for the final two spots. McGee and Kevin Gillick of Lincoln, Neb., birdied the 10th hole to qualify.
