Combs Faces Daily $500 Fines

— Fayetteville developer Gary Combs is being fined $500 per day until he turns himself in to authorities or appears before a judge.

Circuit Judge Kim Smith signed an order holding Combs in contempt of court July 3 and issued a warrant for his arrest. Combs is a defendant in a case involving First State Bank, which gave Combs and his business partners a $1.5 million loan at 5 percent interest in 2008.

The judge held Combs in contempt for failing to appear at hearings April 17, June 4 and June 25 without an excuse and for failing to file schedules of his assets and properties with the court. The daily fines began June 26.
