More Candidates File For School Board Seats

— A contested race has developed for the Elkins School Board as the result of school board filings Monday.

Filing for school board seats in eight Washington County school districts ends at noon today.

Cody Keller filed Monday to challenge Gayla Stahman for Position 5 on the Elkins School Board. Both are political newcomers to local school politics. They seek the seat held by Kristal Gano, who has not indicated if she will seek re-election to a five-year term.

Incumbent Dax Moreton filed as a candidate for the Zone 4 seat on the Lincoln School Board.

Lincoln is switching from at-large elections to zone elections, requiring all current school board members to stand for re-election if they want to continue to serve on the school board.

Incumbent Connie Meyer was the first from Lincoln to file for re-election. He is seeking the Zone 5 seat.

Incumbent Doug Williams filed as a candidate for Position 5 on the Farmington School Board while incumbent James Miller threw his hat in the ring for another five-year term on the Greenland School Board.

Other expiring terms on school board where no candidates have yet filed are:

  • Fayetteville — Becky Purcell, Zone 4, five-year term.
  • Greenland — Deborah Crown, Zone 7, one-year unexpired term.
  • West Fork — Owen McAdoo, Position 4, four-year unexpired term.

Earlier filings include Karen Daugherity for Position 5 in West Fork and Randy Hutchinson for Zone 4 in Springdale.
