Ken Aden drops out of race

Ken Aden, a Democratic candidate for Arkansas' 3rd Congressional District, has withdrawn from the race, according to his website.

Aden had come under fire after the military said his claims of a Special Forces background were false.

"Unfortunately, the ongoing saga related to my military records has created a tremendous distraction for our campaign, and I did not want this to have adverse consequences for Democrats across the district or anywhere else in the state," Aden said in a statement on his website.

Aden had been running against Rep. Steve Womack, a Republican.

“We certainly respect Ken’s decision to withdraw from the race," said Candace Martin, a spokesman for the Arkansas Democratic Party. "He has a young family to consider. And I’m sure it will be good for him to have more time at home to focus on his family.”

Martin said Aden's decision means the Democratic Party will have no contender for the remainder of the congressional race against Womack.

Sad news for voters. No viable choice for this race. Womack is merely a sheeple politician, voting lockstep with his party. More gridlock to come, folks. Looks like I'll have to do a write-in. Sure won't be giving my vote to Womack.

There is still a progressive option in the 3rd District race. Local attorney Rebekah Kennedy is on the ballot representing the Green Party. She is a member of the Arkansas Bar Association and has experience in the area of civil rights and advocating on behalf of victims of discrimination in the workplace. She ran for Senator in 2008 and did very well for a third party candidate by earning just over 20% of the vote.

Unlike Womack, Kennedy was standing with Labor leaders to support job-saving legislation aimed at ending tax breaks for companies that move jobs out of the country and enacting tax breaks to support the creation of new American jobs. http://swtimes.com/sections/business/...

The Green Party Platform is based on the Ten Key Values which include:
Grassroots Democracy
Ecological Wisdom
Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
Nonviolence
Decentralization
Community-based Economics
Feminism
Respect for Diversity \Personal and Global Responsibility
Future Focus and Sustainability

If you share these values, please consider supporting Rebekah Kennedy for Congress.
