100 YEARS AGO July 8, 1912 MAMMOTH SPRING — That an Arkansas young man is about to leap into fame by mechanical ingenuity in contriving a horseless vehicle is evidenced by the accomplishment of a farmer near here. On Saturday Walter Allen, a young man 23 years old, who lives south of Mammoth Spring, came speeding into town with what appeared to be an ordinary spring road wagon. But as no horses were attached to it the people gathered around to ascertain what manner of wagon it might be.
