PUBLIC VIEWPOINT Think Of Neighbors On The Fourth

Every year the past few years I’ve been dreading the Fourth of July.

I live in Beaver Shores and my neighbors across the street and their adult children put their bottle rockets in the street and shoot them off for several days.

They land in my yard and the leaves are so dry. I’m afraid of one of them landing on my roof.

Last year a couple in Bella Vista had one land on their roof. We are both afraid of a fi re.

I hope my neighbors get this paper and read this article. They know who they are and I wish they would make other arrangements.

RogersANOTHER CALL FOR BALANCE?

In light of your editorial

condemnation of Chancellor Gearhart’s “Undocumented: Living inthe Shadows” forum in April, because, you said, it was unbalanced, perhaps you’ll want to make an editorial call for a gorilla poacher to share the stage with Jane Goodall this October.

FayettevilleINMATE’S DEATH

HORRIFYINGAfter reading the article about the death of Denise Whitcomb, I felt sick. To think this poor woman was left in a cell for 178 days, all the while suffering from pancreatic cancer, and given only Tylenol and Pepto-Bismol for the pain makes me feel like we are living in the dark ages.

Every person who came in contact with her and did absolutely nothing to help her should be held accountable - from the sheriff to the doctor to the jailers who saw her every day and could not even seefit to give her a pillow to lay her head on. I’m sure she suff ered unimaginable pain and fear.

What has happened to human kindness? I feel appalled and to everybody at the Benton County Jail who did nothing, shame on you all!

FayettevilleWALMART IN BELLA VISTA?After seeing that the rezoning of Betty Garcia’s property on U.S. 71 and Oldham Road to commercial was approved, I felt obligated to express my considerable experience and knowledge of the situation. First, my qualifications.

  1. Property owner since 1974.

  2. Resident since 1985.

  3. Realtor and developer in Bella Vista for more than 20 years. I built a strip mall on U.S. 71 just north of County Road 40(Hampton Place) and have gone through the rezoning process and approval by the Arkansas Highway Department. Because of the dangers of getting on and off 71, they told me I should only have minimal commercial like professional businesses. I don’t think Walmart would qualify.

Some questions arise.

Where will they get their water and sewer from and who will pay for it?

What about the increased traft c noises and God forbid traft c accidents, some surely serious. If you want to shop at Walmart you only have to go 10 minutes in any direction. Let us not confuse motion with progress. When driving south on U.S. 71 we will have to go through this intersection and wonder why we let this happen.
