Rumors, but no lockdown at Farmington High

Rumors of a Thursday morning lock down at Farmington High School proved to be just that. Farmington Police Sgt. Mike Wilbanks said the school was never on lockdown. He said officers were assisting the Washington County Sheriff's Office with an investigation.
Fayetteville officers were also asked to assist in the investigation. According to a Fayetteville dispatch report, deputies needed help locating a 16-year-old Farmington High School student who didn't show up to school Thursday morning.
The student was reportedly suspected of stealing a gun.
He had reportedly threatened to shoot fellow students, but never brought a weapon to school.
Farmington High School officials said students were briefly asked to stay in their classrooms to clear the hallways, but no additional information was immediately available Thursday morning.
Wilbanks said rumors of a school lock down began swirling on various social networking sites just after 8:20 a.m. Thursday. "The whole thing got blown out of proportion," he said.
