A new piece of Fire Department equipment can identify anything from anthrax to foot powder, saving time, possible quarantine and anxiety.

The optical device purchased for the Rogers Fire Department is called the FirstDefender handheld chemical identifier.
• The device weighs 2 pounds and can be mounted on a robot for additional safety.
• It has a point and shoot laser that can “see” through translucent material, such as glass.
