15-year-old charged as adult in murder case

The Franklin County prosecutor filed a charge of first-degree murder Wednesday morning against a 15-year-old Franklin County boy accused of killing his sister.
Colton Harvey drove from their rural home to the Franklin County sheriff’s office in Ozark on Jan. 15 and told a dispatcher he shot and killed his 16-year-old sister, Franklin County Sheriff Anthony Boen said previously.
Authorities found Candace Harvey’s body in a bedroom on the home, dead of an unknown number of gunshot wounds.
Prosecuting Attorney David Gibbons told Circuit Judge William Pearson in a hearing Jan. 17 that he planned to charge the boy as an adult. The boy’s name wasn’t released until Wednesday morning because he was held as a juvenile until the adult charge was filed.
Authorities have released few details about the shooting death. The children’s parents weren’t home at the time of the shooting, Boen said.
Both teens were Ozark High School students, and Candace was a sophomore basketball player.
Arkansas State Police is assisting the Franklin County sheriff’s office with the investigation.
