Death penalty sought in Memphis triple slaying

— Prosecutors plan to seek a death sentence for the suspect charged with fatally shooting his girlfriend and her parents last week in Memphis.

The announcement came after an arraignment Monday for 28-year-old Sedrick Clayton. Prosecutor Karen Cook told The Commercial Appeal that the state is pursuing the death penalty because multiple people were killed.

Police say Clayton killed 23-year-old Pashea Fisher and her parents, 56-year-old Arithio Fisher and 46-year-old Patricia Fisher, during an argument at the Fisher home.

He surrendered to police and gave them a statement after allegedly fleeing in his girlfriend’s SUV with their 4-year-old daughter. Clayton is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Clayton’s attorney, Gerald Skahan, didn’t immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment on behalf of his client.
