State Dismisses Soccer Goal Claim

The Arkansas Claims Commission, without allowing a hearing, dismissed a $3 million claim filed by a family whose son was killed last January when an unanchored soccer goal fell on him on a school playground.

Jonathan’s Act

Nathan Nelson worked with state representatives to pass Jonathan’s Act in March 2011. The bill requires soccer goals in parks, recreation areas, sports fields and auditoriums to be anchored. The bill was amended after its original version drew opposition from city officials and organizations. It previously required all goals to be manufactured by a company that makes sports equipment.
