Nonprofits team up, help with tax filing

Service free for qualified

Nora Mendez, with the Office of Human Concern in Rogers, talks Wednesday with Cartrina Whisenant of Springdale about her income tax preparation. Nonprofit organizations are working together this income tax season to help low-income residents prepare their tax returns.

Low-income residents of Northwest Arkansas let the Internal Revenue Service keep millions of dollars every year that they could claim through an Earned Income Tax Credit, which will refund up to $5,751 per family this year, said Holly Sparks Hill, vice president of community impact for the United Way of Northwest Arkansas.
