Trails Lit By Solar Energy
CITY INSTALLS ALTERNATIVE POWER SOURCES
Posted: January 18, 2012 at 5:23 a.m.
Brendan Hungate, left, and Braxton Leichner, employees with Multi-Craft Contractors, Inc., monitor a co-worker breaking up hard rock down in a 10-foot-deep hole Wednesday near the Shiloh Square in Springdale. A drill was able to dig most of the hole, but hard rock near the bottom made the crew work with a jackhammer to finish. Multi-Craft is going to install a 70-foot wind turbine to provide an alternative energy source for the Razorback Greenway that will pass through the spot. The turbine is being paid for by the Department of Energy.
Those using muscle power on Springdale trails instead of driving will find their way lit by alternative power sources.
AT A GLANCE
Texas Turbines
Willow Creek Renewable Energy has installed 12 Southwest Windpower turbines at Lady Bird Johnson Middle School in Irving, Texas. The design of the school, along with the turbines and solar panels, allows it to be the first net-zero school in Texas and the largest net-zero middle school in the country. The school produces as much energy as it consumes.
