FAYETTEVILLE Police arrested a man in connection with an armed bank robbery on the west side of town Saturday.
Sgt. Craig Stout, of the Fayetteville Police Department, said officers were called to the Metropolitan National Bank, 4033 N. Shiloh Drive, about noon.
A man wearing sunglasses and a tan hooded coat reportedly entered the bank as it was closing. Police said the man brandished a gun and demanded money.
“At one point, I believe he jumped over the counter to help the teller clean out the cash drawer,” Stout said.
The man placed an undisclosed amount of money into a bag and exited the business. Witnesses said he was last seen running toward McDonald’s. Police captured him about ten minutes later near the intersection of Appleby Road and Gregg Street. Stout said he didn’t believe any customers were inside the bank during the robbery. He said no employees were injured.
