Schools named to governor’s STEM Works Initiative

Two Northwest Arkansas schools will use a combined $155,690 in grants to buy equipment and provide teacher training for the governor’s initiative to prepare students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
At A Glance
What is STEM?
Science, technology, engineering and math education programs, such as Project Lead The Way, engage students in activities-, projects- and problem-based learning, and provides hands-on classroom experiences. Students create, design, build, discover, collaborate and solve problems while applying what they learn in math and science. They're also exposed to fields through professionals from industries who supplement the real-world aspect of the curriculum through mentorships and workplace experiences.
Project Lead The Way programs are established at Springdale, Fayetteville and Bentonville high schools.
