Sex Offender Accused Of Being On School Grounds

A Level 3 sex offender was arrested Tuesday in connection with being on the grounds of two Bentonville schools.

What The Law Says

Under Arkansas law, it is unlawful for a sex offender who is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act of 1997 and who has been assessed as a Level 3 or Level 4 offender to knowingly enter the campus of a public school.

It is not a violation if the offender:

• Is younger than 22 and enrolled

• Enters to attend a school event where admission is charged or a graduation or baccalaureate ceremony

• Enters the campus on a day not designated a student contact day by the school’s calendar

• Is the parent/guardian of a student and enters to deliver medicine, food or personal items to the school’s office
