— Washington County deputies arrested a Fayetteville police officer on Tuesday after he reportedly held his ex-wife’s boyfriend at gunpoint, according to a preliminary arrest report.

Cpl. Terry Davis, 46, of 11859 Longstate Road in Elkins was arrested Tuesday in connection with felony first-degree battery and aggravated assault.

Deputies responded to 10177 N. Whitehouse Road for a disturbance just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Walter Yell told police he was sleeping when he heard someone try to enter his home. He went to the door and reportedly heard the person outside tell him to “open the door.”

The report said Yell opened the door and Davis “bum rushed” him and held a knife to his throat. He then walked Yell to his bedroom and asked where his ex-wife was, according to the report.

Investigators said Davis forced Yell to call the woman, but the report is unclear about whether they reached her. After hanging up the phone, Davis held Yell against a wall with a knife to his throat then pulled out a gun, according to the report. He reportedly threatened to kill Yell and held the gun to his head. Deputies said Davis fired once or twice into the bed and wanted Yell to again place the phone call. He reportedly threatened to kill Yell and himself.

The two did reach Yell’s girlfriend at some point but the police reports are unclear about when. The girlfriend, 27-year-old Renee Davis, reportedly notified police of the situation.

Terry Davis was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held without bond Tuesday morning.

He has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Fayetteville Police Department conducts an internal investigation.
