Rogers Mayor Greg Hines stands outside Rogers City Hall on Wednesday as he nears the end of his first year in office.

Hines First Year

Mayor Greg Hines had accomplishments and challenges his first year in office.

Accomplishments

• A successful transition from 12-year tenure of Steve Womack.

• The announcement of Cabela’s coming to Rogers

• Approval of a 1 percent sales tax extension to repay $135.4 million in bonds for improvements to streets and parks.

Challenges

• Replacing the police chief.

• Bid estimates off by about $8 million on the sport park and aquatic center.

• Weather: heavy snowfall, a wet spring, a dry and hot summer. Twenty-four inches snow closed city offices for several days. Spring rain caused low-area flooding. The dry summer had a plus side, it increased water sales for the city. On the negative side, it made residents cranky about all sorts of issues that kept City Hall phones ringing, officials said.
