Communications between a 37-year-old armed Bentonville man barricaded inside his home and local law enforcement agencies are not developing as successfully was hoped, according to Bentonville Police Chief Jon Simpson. Fully-geared SWAT team members are stationed at various points around the neighborhood surrounding 3400 Landau Court.

Simpson said the department is working with Elm Tree Elementary to ensure that children who live in the neighborhood have an alternate place to go.

Local law enforcement agencies will track the weather and consider the time of day when deciding how to end the standoff, Simpson said.

"What we know is we have a person who is armed and not stable," Simpson said. "It's all about containment right now."
