Petition started for package liquor question in Madison County

A Kingston man is collecting signatures for a ballot issue regarding whether packaged alcohol sales should again be allowed in Madison County.

The county has been dry since 1946, a city official said.

Bob Barton said he’s recruiting volunteers to help collect the roughly 3,200 signatures state law requires to get the issue on the ballot.

Madison County is bordered by both wet and dry counties and does not have any private clubs that serve alcohol, according to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.
